Annigoni - sumptuousness in a paper

Annigoni is named after the famous 20th century Italian portrait artist Pietro Annigoni. The paper was manufactured by Magnani according to his specifications at some time during the 1950's. Primarily an oil painter, he also was a printmaker and sculptor. He used the Annigoni paper for his studies, as did many of his students. After his death in 1988 the mill decided to cease production of Annigoni. After an outcry from his students and other afficianados of this wonderful paper, the mill  changed their mind guaranteeing continuity of supply for years to come.
The paper is made from 100% cotton, and is a beige/stone colour. It has dyed woollen fibres added to the pulp, sometimes referred to as 'silurian fibres'. These enhance the appearance of the paper without interfering with the artwork. Available only in 250 gsm, it is suitable for all types of printmaking, and for drawing or pastels. It has a moderately tough surface and has a medium amount of sizing.
